MAST Documentation Help

Welcome to MAST

MAST ("Market Abuse Surveillance Tool") is a trade surveillance tool which detects market abuse. MAST analyses your trade data during a batch process and displays its results on a T+1 basis for you to review.

MAST detects abuse by modelling the theoretical market impact of each trade. This lets it locate instances where a trader deliberately attempts to move the price of an asset in a favourable direction, regardless of whether the trader succeeded.

Prioritising the Riskiest Trades: MAST's key output is the materiality score, which quantifies in dollar terms the amount by which the trader intended to gain. This score lets you prioritise the riskiest trades for investigation.

Detecting Cross-product Abuse: MAST also models the sensitivities of different instruments to a common factor. This lets it see where a trader manipulated the market whilst using nominally separate instruments.

Fewer False Positives: MAST automatically calibrates its parameter logic for each individual instrument by using market data. This ensures it produces fewer false positives than simple rules based systems.
